‘We are still in the game,’ says Aamir Jamal amidst Pakistan’s struggles

SYDNEY: Pakistan all-rounder Aamir Jamal has shown faith in his team to make a comeback on the fourth day of the ongoing Sydney Test against Australia.

Pakistan are on the verge of a whitewash as they collapsed from 58-3 to 67-7 on the third day, courtesy of Josh Hazlewood, who picked four wickets for only nine runs.

Mohammad Rizwan (6) and Aamir Jamal (0) will resume the batting for Pakistan on the fourth day with their side leading by 82 runs.

Jamal, however, stated during the press conference that any team can lose wickets like his side did but they still have a chance to turn things around.

“I am still pretty confident that we are in the game. I know it happened, but it can happen to any team. We are still confident if we can get to 150-170, I think that would be a fighting total,” said Jamal.

He also acknowledged the momentum change after the first innings and believes that the fourth innings will be challenging for both teams due to changing pitch behaviour.

“Our momentum has changed after the first innings. We knew pitch behaviour was going to change. It is going to be worse in the fourth innings, for us and for them as well,” he added.

Aamir Jamal also talked about his impressive performance during the Sydney Test, sharing that he wanted to be the highest wicket-taker in the series.

“My aim was to be the highest wicket-taker in this series. But I didn’t know I’d get six wickets in this inning. That’s all the hard work,” he concluded.

Jamal scored 82 runs during the first innings to help his side post 313 before taking 6-69 to wrap Australia’s first innings at 299.
