Shahid Afridi tight-lipped on Pakistan’s performance in Australia

SYDNEY: Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi refrained from commenting on the national team’s dismal performance in the recently concluded Test series against Australia but praised all-rounder Aamir Jamal.

Pakistan succumbed to an eight-wicket defeat in the Sydney Test against Australia, which meant that the hosts claimed the three-match series 3-0.

This increased Pakistan’s wait for their first Test victory in Australia since 1995-96.

Meanwhile, star all-rounder Shahid Afridi took to Twitter after the side’s 17th consecutive loss in Australia and shared that he was ‘reserving his views’ on the defeat but instead lauded emerging all-rounder Aamir Jamal.

“Going to reserve my views on our team’s performance but for sure Aamer Jamal is an excellent addition to the side,” wrote Afridi.

Afridi then congratulated Australia on a dominating victory and also praised their ‘never give up mindset’.

“Congrats Australia on a dominating win, been a fan of never give up mindset,” he added.

He then went on to congratulate David Warner, who hung up his boots from Test cricket at his home ground against Pakistan.

“[David Warner] congrats on an amazing career and prayers for your future,” wrote Afridi.

It is worth mentioning here that Pakistan could only add 47 runs to their overnight score of 68-7 and were eventually bundled out on a meagre 115.

The tourists set a modest 130-run target for Australia, which they comfortably chased down for the cost of just two wickets.

Retiring opener David Warner and middle-order batter Marnus Labuschagne played pivotal roles in their side’s triumph, both scoring half-centuries.

Warner, however, could not score the winning runs for his side as he fell victim to Sajid Khan after scoring 57. At the time of his dismissal, Australia needed a mere 11 runs.

Labuschagne, on the other hand, stood his ground firm and guided Australia home with an unbeaten 62 in 73 deliveries, laced up with nine boundaries.
