Klaasen, Topley power Durban’s Super Giants to victory over Joburg Super Kings

DURBAN: Heinrich Klaasen’s scintillating knock was followed by Reece Topley’s brilliant bowling performance to propel Durban’s Super Giants to victory over Joburg Super Kings in the seventh SA20 match at Kingsmead on Monday.

The Super Giants captain Keshav Maharaj opted to bat first when the coin flipped in his favour, however, the decision backfired as they slipped to 34-4 in 6.1 overs.

Keemo Paul and Klaasen knitted an anchoring 39-run stand for the fifth wicket before the former was dismissed courtesy of a combined catching effort by Leus du Plooy and David Weise.

Klaasen, who was playing at 21 off 14, took the game on its head with some belligerent hitting, scoring his second half-century of the season.

He stood tall against the bowlers of Super Kings, who kept picking wickets from the other end and finally managed to dismiss Klaasen on the penultimate ball of the innings.
