NEW DELHI: India’s ace batter Virat Kohli has withdrawn from the opening two Tests of the five-match home series against England, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed Monday.
According to the details, Kohli opted out of the first two Tests, scheduled from January 25 to February 6 due to personal reasons.
The star batter is likely to link up with the squad ahead of the third Test, scheduled to take place in Rajkot from February 15 to 19.

Meanwhile, the BCCI confirmed that Kohli has informed them about his decision and has also contacted captain Rohit Sharma, who offered his full support to the right-handed batter.
“Mr. Virat Kohli has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to be withdrawn from the first two Tests of the upcoming IDFC First Bank Test series against England, citing personal reasons,” BCCI said in a press release.
“Virat has spoken to Captain Rohit Sharma, the team management and the selectors and has emphasized that while representing the country has always been his top priority, certain personal situations demand his presence and undivided attention,” the statement added.
Earlier, Virat Kohli also withdrew from the first T20I of the three-match home series against Afghanistan due to personal reasons.
