Australian batsman Usman Khawaja is progressing through concussion protocols and is expected to resume training this week ahead of the Brisbane Test against West Indies.
Khawaja was hit on the right side of his jaw by debutant Josheph’s bouncer during the first Test at Adelaide, resulting in him retiring hurt following the consultation by onfield doctors.
He passed the initial concussion test in the dressing room before undergoing scans to check the impact of the blow to his jaw. Cricket Australia later confirmed that he was cleared of both.
He continued to be monitored and has shown no symptoms of delayed concussion over the weekend, which means he will resume training during Australia’s training session on Tuesday.
“He completed normal concussion assessments today [Sunday],” a CA spokesperson said.

“[Usman] Khawaja will continue to be monitored for any delayed symptoms. He will be reviewed again tomorrow prior to returning to training.”
Notably, Australia are currently leading the two-match series 1-0 after they cruised to a ten-wicket victory in the Adelaide Test after chasing the 26-run target in under seven overs.
Australian pace bowler Josh Hazlewood inspired his side with a brilliant spell of seam bowling to dismiss West Indies for 120 in the second innings, setting a small 26-run target.
Bowling with almost metronomic precision, Hazlewood ended with 5-35 in the second innings after at one stage having figures of 4-2.
