Shadab Khan reacts after losing T20I vice-captaincy to Mohammad Rizwan

KARACHI: Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan opened up after he was replaced as Pakistan’s T20I vice-captain by wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday, announced Mohammad Rizwan will serve as Shaheen Shah Afridi’s deputy, who is all set to lead Pakistan for the first time in the away T20I series against New Zealand.

The five-match series will run from January 12 to 21 in Auckland, Hamilton, Dunedin and Christchurch.

Notably, Shadab, who Khan served as former Pakistan captain Babar Azam’s deputy in white-ball cricket, congratulated Mohammad Rizwan and urged fans to support the wicketkeeper batter.

“Congratulations Rizwan on being named the vice-captain of the T20I team. I know you will be a brilliant deputy to Shaheen Afridi,” Shadab wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

 

“I urge all the fans to get behind them and support the team vs NZ,” he added.

It is worth mentioning here that Shadab Khan is currently on the road to recovery from an ankle injury, which ruled him out of the New Zealand tour.

Earlier on Monday, the remaining members of the Pakistan squad for New Zealand T20Is, who were partaking in the three-match Test series against Australia, reached Auckland from Sydney.

The squad will start training tomorrow after enjoying a rest day today.
