Cricket Australia (CA) has announced a 14-member T20I squad for the upcoming series against West Indies, with all-rounder Mitchell Marsh named as the captain on Wednesday.
Marsh is likely to lead Australia in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup later this year, which is scheduled to take place in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA).
Australia have not announced a permanent T20I captain since the retirement of Aaron Finch after the T20 World Cup in 2022.
Marsh led Australia in the T20I series against South Africa, which they won 3-0, while Matthew Wade was named skipper for the series against India, which was played right after the ICC World Cup 2023.
Australian head coach Andrew McDonald was not part of those series and he will not be in charge of the West Indies series, however, he will be coaching the team in the T20I series against New Zealand next month.

George Bailey, the chairman of selectors, has confirmed that a permanent captain will be announced after the New Zealand series. “I think we will make a decision about that post the New Zealand series,” Bailey said.
“New Zealand will be the time when Andrew [McDonald] jumps back in so it’s a good chance to see how those two work together,” he added.
Meanwhile, Steve Smith, who will lead Australia in the ODI series against West Indies, as well as pace bowlers Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have been rested for the T20I series against West Indies, but are likely to return in the New Zealand series ahead of the T20 World Cup.
